Developing Communities of Learning
We often are inspired by what we learn, but far less often find ways to apply newly-gained skills and knowledge once we leave our physical and virtual learning spaces. Communities of learning—including those we create and nurture within libraries—can help assure that learning accompanies learners out of the classroom and back into those settings where it can produce positive results.
This one-hour interactive webinar includes reviews of and discussions about resources that help us establish and maintain effective communities of learning; helps us see how approaching learning as a process rather than as an event increases the impact of any learning opportunity; and encourages you to apply these discussions and resources to your own libraries to create communities of learning that produce positive, measurable results for all involved.
Participants, by the time they leave the session, will:
- Be able to demonstrate familiarity with the ways that communities of learning foster measurable learning results
- Identify at least three ways that communities of learning can benefit their staff and/or library users
- Have at least two ideas that they can implement in their library learning programs
Paul Signorelli ~ Biography
Paul, co-author of Workplace Learning & Leadership with Lori Reed, served as director of staff training for the San Francisco Public Library system before becoming an independent writer-trainer-consultant-learning advocate. He designs and facilitates online and face-to-face learning opportunities throughout the U.S.; is active in the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) and American Library Association Learning Round Table; and explores and nurtures innovations in learning in a variety of settings. He focused on best practices in learning while earning his MLIS through the online program offered by the University of North Texas.
