The often-quoted advice for leaders is to “know your followers.” Excellent advice, of course, but to be a great leader you must first know yourself.
As leaders, we know that staff members are the most important resource for achieving the library’s mission and goals. They interact with our patrons day in and day out. What we don’t often consider is that how we interact with our staff affects how they, in turn, interact with those patrons.
While we are trying to lead by planning, organizing, and controlling, we can sometimes forget the “how” of our own leadership efforts. Understanding ourselves as leaders will increase our effectiveness and positively impact staff members and patrons.
In this session, we will cover important information on:
- using our emotional intelligence to improve our leadership skills
- becoming aware of our own personality and how personality characteristics affect our effectiveness as a leader
- understanding the difference between introverts and extroverts and why that, too, matters to our employees

Linda received her MBA from the University of Florida and has been developing and conducting training programs for more than fifteen years. Linda offers workshops on Customer Service, Leadership, Personalities, and many other topics. She is also certified with Development Dimensions International and Achieve Global.
