PCI Webinar with Brian Smith and Suvi Manner

Creating Advocacy Events for Your Library

Competency: Marketing and Public Relations
Sub-Category: Provides marketing training (how to talk to media, how to promote services, etc.) for all staff, board members and other key stakeholders

Do you want to make a difference and promote your library services but don’t know where to start? This interactive webinar program will get you well on your way to planning your own advocacy event by hearing ideas and experiences from colleagues and by providing project management and budgeting tools to make your ideas into reality.

Participants, by the time they leave the session, will:

  • Be able to identify key stakeholders in their own communities who play or could play a role in the advocacy of their library
  • Be able to describe several ways in which to communicate with community stakeholders
  • Be able to create a project management outline for an advocacy – or other type event
  • Be able to identify at least five ways to market an advocacy event.
  • Be able to identify potential community organizations to partner with the library in order to promote each other
  • Locate potential sponsors that may be able to assist with funding, or supplies needed for an advocacy event

Both Brian and Suvi have experience with the Florida Library Association’s three Snapshot Days. These Snapshot Day events provided hard data, photographs, and inspiration for their local library association’s advocacy events.
